On December 7-18, during the Climate Summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, activists, organizations and social movements of all around the world will be gathering in Klimaforum09, an event which will work as an alternative of the global civil society to the official UN Summit. Activities will take place at the DGI-Byen, a huge conference complex in the city center of Copenhagen, just 50 meters from the central station.
The event expects the participation of 10 thousand visitants per day, coming from 100 different countries. Participation is open and the program offers you 190 inspiring talks, 50 exhibitions, 30 climate films and documentaries, global music, theater, invited guest speakers and much more. Three organizations which are members of the WSF International Council – Friends of the Earth, World March of Women and Via Campesina – will hold joint activities during Klimaforum09. Dec. 10, 3:15 PM until 6:15 PM, at Green Hall: “Feminists Struggling Against Climate Change and Privatization of the Environment”. Dec 11, 1 PM until 6 PM, at Orange Hall: “For Climate Justice: Food and Energy Sovereignty Dec 15, 1 PM until 2 PM, at Green Hall: “False Solutions: how to resist them and promote alternatives” Dec 18, 1 PM until 3 PM, at Green Hall: “Taking the movement forward: Post-COP15 mobilizations”.
It is important to say that on December 12 all organizations and movements will be gathered at the street activities on the Global Day of Action for the Climate.
Organized by a broad international coalition of environmental movements and civil society organizations, the main objective of Klimaforum09 is to create an open space, where people, movements and organisations can develop constructive solutions to the climate crisis. According to organizers, there are efforts to invite people from the regions in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Ocean mostly affected by climate change.
