 The International Forum of national NGO platforms

At the end of an International Conference which got them together, for the first time, 82 national NGO platforms representatives of 82 countries and NGO regional coalitions from Africa, Latin America, Europe and Oceania, decided to create an International Forum of national NGO platforms, a permanent space of cooperation and initiatives. The Forum’s members drew and validated a grid of criteria specific to a national NGO platform, which is the base to define who can be a member of the Forum.  The Forum’s Facilitation Group

The Forum of National NGO platforms will be animated by a « Facilitation group » mandated for a two year term and composed of the 5 historical platforms who launched the process : ABONG (Brazil), ACCIÓN (Chile), CONGAD (Senegal), Coordination SUD (France), VANI (India) along with new representatives of Pacific islands : PIANGO, North America : InterAction (USA), North Africa/Middle East : Espace Associatif (Morocco), Central Africa : CNONGD (Democratic Republic of Congo), and Southern Africa : SADC-NGO Council.

 The Forum’s Action Plan

This Forum aims at facilitating cooperation between national platforms and regional coalitions of NGOs at the regional, inter-regional and international levels through common advocacy and capacity building actions. While acknowledging their diversity, they decided to capitalize on the action led by the 5 historical platforms which launched the networking process and to move into a transitory phase aiming at deepening the structuring of the Forum and the definition of its goals as well as the organization of its governance.  The International resource center

Clik on the pic to download the presentation document of the International resource center In accordance with one of the elements the action plan focus on, the Forum follow through the development of the International resource center (portal web site www.ong-ngo.org) The International Resource Centre was set up in 2007 to fulfil the following objectives: - capacity building programmes (technical assistance, training facilities) to strengthen national platforms of NGOs - regional cooperation amongst national platforms (regional coordination, collective work, governance) - international cooperation on global issues (advocacy, promotion of policy papers from national platforms, preparation of international meetings…) Information and participative cooperation tool, in 4 languages (french, english, spanish and portuguese), the International resource center allowed in its first phase the opening of a communication areabetween national NGO platforms. Now that the Forum is created, the International resource center enters its second development phase and organizes itself as a « non governmental diplomacy» major tool.
